Katie Maples is the head coach for Brownsburg Varsity Volleyball. This is her first season at Brownsburg, but she has plenty of experience playing and coaching. She was the assistant coach at Avon High School for 3 years, 2 of which she saw the team go to State finals where they were State champions one year and runner-up the other. She has coached 11 players that have gone on to the college level at universities like Purdue, Louisiana State University (LSU) and Ball State.
Katie was a high school and college athlete. She played basketball and volleyball in high school and went on to play volleyball in college at Purdue University from 2009-2014. In her time as a Boilermaker, she went to the Elite Eight twice, the Sweet Sixteen twice and was an Academic All Big Ten player twice. In 2012, she was added 5 kills and hit with a .417 percentage against Minnesota in the Sweet Sixteen match. She was Purdue’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree and was instrumental in the team’s win against Iowa in the 2013 season. Overall, in her college career she played in almost 100 matches.
Katie is married to Tom Maples, Brownsburg Varsity Boys’ Golf head coach and Varsity Boys’ Basketball assistant coach. They have two sons: Pete, who is 4 and Max who is 2 and a half along with another child on the way.
Even though this is Katie’s first season, she has led the Bulldogs to victory 3 out of the 4 matches played in the 2019-2020 season so far. Her wealth of knowledge and experience will no doubt bring the Bulldogs to a triumphant season this year.
